Dear Readers,
Visiting Montecarlo (near Lucca)
during their wine festival in September, I came upon the exhibit of
a young photographer named Francesco Campanella. His engaging work,
in particular our cover page of Piazza dei Cavalieri, communicates
beyond the surface and inspired me to write about the Scuola Normale
Superiore of Pisa. With historical factors at work in Italy today,
not even Grapevine Magazine can ignore them. This is a time for
reflection.
On a lighter note, Francesca
Trupia, photographer and editor of the blog Livornoinpink, brings us
her beautiful images of the Terrazza Mascagni. I encourage you to
discover the beauty of this section of coastline, which although
part of the city still offers a quiet approach to nature, sea and
sky, thanks to the farsightedness of Livorno's leaders.
Francesca also shares with us
her insights about basketball in Livorno - but more than basketball,
about how a diverse community unites around a sport and reaches out
internationally.
Finally, we conclude with some
images of Harborea, the first annual garden show, featuring
horticulturalists from all around Tuscany. October 14 to 16 were
cold but bright fall days, perfect for strolling among the plants
and flowers in the beautiful Villa Mimbelli park.
Complimenti to the ladies of the Associazione
Giardini Italiani, Livorno Garden Club!
We'll be back next year.
Along with these features, we
include What's On, a summary of outstanding cultural happenings in
Pisa and Livorno Provinces, for the next month and beyond.
We hope you enjoy reading this
issue and look forward to hearing from you!
